Privacy Policy
Last updated 7 October 2026
In short: Utsikt collects no data about you. There is no Utsikt server, and the developer never learns who you are, what you look at or what you post.
No tracking
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party tools that collect data.
- The app doesn't ask for your contacts, location, camera or whole photo library. When you post, you pick photos in the system's photo picker, and the app only sees the photos you pick.
Which servers the app talks to
Utsikt loads photos and posts directly from Fediverse servers:
- The server where you have your account, if you sign in. What you publish – photos, captions, comments, likes, follows and reports – goes there and is handled under that server's terms and privacy policy.
- The servers under Your servers in Explore, and the servers you visit. The list starts with pixelfed.social, pixey.org and pixelfed.de, and you can change it.
- mastodon.social and fosstodon.org, which hashtag feeds and bubbles load public posts from.
- pixelfed.org, when you open Find servers (the server directory).
- The servers that host the photos in your feeds.
As with any request on the internet, these servers see your IP address and the app's name and version. Sign-in details only go to your own server, and you sign in on the server's own web page. Utsikt never sees your password.
Photos you post
- Photos are re-encoded on the phone before they are sent, which removes metadata such as location and camera settings.
- Suggested image descriptions with Apple Intelligence are made on the phone. The photo doesn't leave it.
What is stored on the phone
Your sign-in (in the keychain), your settings, bubbles, filters, hashtag sets, your servers, where you stopped reading in the home feed, and what you last saw in Activity. It stays on the phone, isn't shared, and is deleted when you delete the app.
Your account
Your account and what you have posted live on your server, not with Utsikt. To change or delete them, use your server's website or contact its administrator.
