Utsikt is a free iPhone app for discovering photos across the Fediverse, mainly from Pixelfed servers. It's chronological, has no ads and collects no data.
Getting started
- Without an account: in Explore you can visit any Pixelfed server, see what's trending, browse photographers and follow hashtags in your own bubbles.
- With an account: tap Home, enter your server's address (for example pixelfed.social) and sign in on the server's own page. You then get your home feed and can like, comment, follow and post photos.
- No account yet? Explore → Find servers lists Pixelfed's server directory. Pick a server and sign up on its website.
Questions
Why does a server say it needs sign-in?
Pixelfed servers only show some things, such as their local feed, comments and search, to people signed in on that server. Utsikt tells you so instead of showing an empty page.
Why is the boost button grey?
Pixelfed before version 0.12.11 can't save boosts. The button works once your server is updated.
How do I report or block someone?
Tap ⋯ on a post or profile and choose Report or Block, or long-press a comment. Reports go to your server's moderators. The developer of Utsikt can't remove content. Blocked accounts are listed under Settings → Blocked Accounts.
How do I hide hashtags, words or accounts?
In Filters, from your profile (⋯ → Filters) or from Explore. Filters apply in every feed.
Are my bubbles and filters stored in the cloud?
No, they only live on your phone and are deleted when you delete the app.
How do I sign out or delete my account?
Sign out from your profile → ⋯ → Sign Out. Your account lives on your server, so delete it on the server's website.
